Russian national guard rocked by another general's arrest probe

General Mikhail Varentsov, head of the Digital Development and Information Security Department of Rosgvardia, was detained in Moscow in connection with an investigation into large-scale fraud, the TASS agency reported. This marks another investigation involving a high-ranking officer of the Russian National Guard.

"As part of the investigation against the head of the Main Center for Information Technology of Rosgvardia, Nikolai Chepkasov, Mikhail Varentsov was detained. Investigative actions are currently being carried out with him, after which a decision will be made regarding preventive measures," stated a source from the agency.

Will Rosgvardia general be arrested?

According to the source, investigators plan to request the general's arrest.

Earlier in March, in connection with the same investigation, Nikolai Chepkasov, the head of the Main Center for Information Technology of Rosgvardia, was arrested. He, like Varentsov, is accused of large-scale fraud.

Scandal in Russia: Generals involved in bribery

In mid-February, in a separate case concerning large-scale bribery, another high-ranking officer of Rosgvardia, General Konstantin Riabych, was detained.

As reported by TASS and "Kommersant," citing sources in law enforcement, Riabych headed one of the departments of Rosgvardia. The alleged bribe totaled 15 million rubles (approximately $182,000), according to TASS.
