The media have reported numerous cases of Russia's terrorism charges. One high-profile case involved four residents of Crimea sentenced to prison camp for several years on charges of terrorism and alleged ties with "Ukrainian radicals".

Investigators believe that the accused had connections with "Ukrainian radicals involved in Donbas warfare" and had a plot to explode a homemade bomb at a market in Simferopol, Crimean Peninsula. The accused denied guilt, stating the charges were fabricated against them.
