"Today, the sky mourns the loss of two of its sons, who soared bravely and freely. May they find peace among the stars. We will forever honor their memory as heroes who dedicated themselves to Ukraine," shared the 12th separate aviation brigade on Facebook this Tuesday.
Initially, the Brigade didn't disclose how the pilots died.
On Wednesday, footage was revealed by the Russian Ministry of National Defense, showcasing the assault on three Ukrainian helicopters in the Donetsk region.
According to the Russian MOD, their scouts detected "three helicopters at a helipad, equipped for refueling and rearming, and promptly targeted them with cluster munitions."
The video's latter portion visibly shows missiles striking the aircraft. Neither Ukraine nor Moscow have offered further details on this event.
The Ukrainian news outlet Unian has connected the 12th army's announcement with the video from the Russian MOD.
