Russian military turns to camels and donkeys amid shortages

The Russian army is facing significant equipment shortages. As a result, camels, horses, and even donkeys have started to be deployed to equip several units. Russian propagandists claim these animals will help soldiers move more efficiently in hard-to-reach areas.

Much of the information provided by Russian media and government representatives is part of propaganda. Such reports are components of the information war conducted by the Russian Federation.

Alexander Garmayev, a Russian military commander, reported on Telegram that donkeys are being used in one unit to transport ammunition.

Meanwhile, Viktor Sobolev, a member of the State Duma defense committee, argues that using pack animals is justified because their loss is less severe than losing equipment.

"Let the donkeys contribute to victory. Both dogs and cats are working in the war zone," said General Viktor Zavarzin.

However, the desire to take advantage of animals' edge in the field over heavy military vehicles is not the main reason for incorporating them into the army.

A desperate move by Russians: animals join the army

"What did you expect? Vehicles are currently in short supply!" wrote military commentator Kirill Fedorov online in response to ongoing mockery.

"'World's second army' in all its glory. Rolling back to the times of the Russian Empire - complete with cavalry and drafting representatives of national minorities as cannon fodder," commented Anton Gerashchenko, former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, on platform X, sharing a recording of Russian soldiers with Asian features riding horses.

According to "Forbes," Russia loses about 6,000 armored vehicles annually, exceeding Russian factories' production capacity.
