Russian military helicopter crashes, no survivors in Kaluga region
A Russian military helicopter, the Mi-28, crashed on Thursday in the Kaluga region. According to local authorities, the crew did not survive.
The crash occurred in the Zhizdra area in the Kaluga region, located southwest of Moscow. Reuters, citing the Russian Ministry of Defense, reports that a technical malfunction is likely to have caused the crash.
The Governor of the region, Vladislav Shapsha, reported that task forces are currently working at the site.
It was not disclosed how many people were on board, but the Mi-28 attack helicopter usually has a two-person crew.
The Russian Ministry of Defense also stated that the crash happened over an uninhabited area, so there was no damage on the ground.
Anton Herashchenko, an advisor to the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs, reported on the X platform that the cost of the helicopter lost by Russia is around $18 million.
Russian drones destroyed
Meanwhile, Ukrainian media report the discovery of the wreckage of a Russian drone used in an attack during the night of July 19 to 20. "Pictures of the wreckage reveal it differs significantly from the Shahed-136 drone, commonly used by the Russians for attacks on Ukraine," reports the Ukrainian Pravda portal.
Additionally, the drone's flight pattern was unusual, allegedly flying at an altitude of just 66-98 feet. The wreckage was described in official reports as an "unidentified type of unmanned aerial vehicle."
