Russian military employee detained for leaking secrets to Ukraine

An employee of the Southern Military District of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation was detained on charges of high treason, the Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on Tuesday. The suspect is alleged to have passed information to the Ukrainian army.

According to the press service of the FSB for the Rostov region, an employee of the Southern Military District was detained on charges of high treason and passing information to employees of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

"It was established that in January, a resident of Rostov-on-Don established and maintained contact with a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine via the Signal communicator. Acting on the orders of the Ukrainian side in 2023, this person began service in one of the military units of the Southern Military District, where they collected various types of information about arsenals, bases, and warehouses that are part of the district" the statement read.

The FSB reported that Russian authorities confiscated communication devices used by the suspect to contact the representative of the Ukrainian side. A criminal case was initiated under Article 275 of the Russian criminal code (high treason).
