The alarming video from Kamchatka is gaining traction on Platform X (previously Twitter). This distressing incident involved a car striking multiple pedestrians. Early media reports suggest that the vehicle's driver is a lieutenant in the Russian military, and the victims were recruits under his command.
Appalling Accident in Kamchatka Involves Lieutenant Striking Recruits
The incident happened on December 2, at the 16th mile of the Petropavlovsk Kamchatsky-Elizovo highway in Kamchatka, a peninsula on Russia's easternmost edge. As depicted in the video, the car is traveling on a dark, icy road, glinting under the vehicle's headlights.
Another car, moving in the opposite direction, passes the lieutenant first. Then, in a moment of high drama, the car with the dashcam abruptly swerves, plowing into a group of pedestrians on the road, and finally comes to rest on the roadside.
An Observation: One pedestrian was wearing a reflective vest, while the rest wore dark clothing, compromising their visibility. Russian voices can be heard post-collision and the vehicle rocks, as if dangling precariously on an edge or against a tree.
Based on updates on Platform X (Twitter), the car struck a total of eleven people. Six of these victims sustained severe injuries and were hospitalized. It would be miraculous if everyone survived despite their injuries.
From the information available on the Mash Telegram profile, it's surmised that the driver was traveling at around 50 mph, a speed unsuitable for the road conditions.
The accident's victims are recruits from a local military unit. Driven by 27-year-old Lieutenant Igor N., as reported by Belsat, the car was in the control of a sober driver. He claimed that he was temporarily blinded by the glare from an oncoming vehicle's headlights.
