In the Donetsk region, Russia lost another aircraft that was shelling Ukrainian-controlled territory. According to a source in the Ukrainian Air Force cited by Ukrainska Pravda, the plane was shot down by its own forces and crashed.

The incident occurred near Kostiantynivka in Donbas.

Traces of destruction

Photos shared on social media show the wreckage of the aircraft, which struck a house and caused a fire after being shot down. One video shows two Russian fighter jets flying in the same direction, with one suddenly shooting down the other.

What is Russia's next target?

The latest intelligence update states that on October 1, Russia took control of Vuhledar in the southern part of the Donetsk region. This area lies at the intersection of two key fronts—Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk. The town's capture followed a renewed Russian campaign in September, during which its forces nearly encircled the town, leading to the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces by the end of the month.

It is noted that over the past two years, Russia has made sporadic attempts to capture Vuhledar, suffering significant losses. The town's elevated position aided defense by Ukrainian forces.

In the coming weeks, it is assessed that Russian forces are likely to attempt to advance beyond Vuhledar. To the west, a probable target is the locality of Velyka Novosilka, situated along main road T0509. Just 5 miles to the north lies the locality of Bohoyavlenka.
