Russian forces escalate in Sumy: Logistical routes targeted
Russian armed forces are attempting to enter the Sumy region to disrupt Ukrainian logistics, reports the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (DPSU).
- The enemy is now trying to enter our territory with assault groups or expand the zone of active combat within Ukraine, particularly in the direction of the village of Novenke - explained Andriy Demchenko, the spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
He added that both the units of the State Border Guard Service and the armed forces are inflicting maximum losses on them, emphasizing that the opponent cannot establish a foothold on the territory of Ukraine to gather their forces there.
Ukrainian defense in the Sumy region
The Ukrainian army is striving to prevent Russian forces from moving deeper into the country and cutting off key logistical routes.
- These are not large-scale assaults. When the enemy attempts to push Ukrainian defence forces out of Kursk Oblast, they primarily exert pressure on our flanks within the region. Subsequently, they try to expand the active combat zone by advancing into Ukrainian territory. However, all components of the defense forces are operating in this direction to prevent that, using all available weapons - emphasized Demchenko.
On Saturday, the Ukrainian DeepState project reported that Russians maintain fire control over all logistical routes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region.
"The enemy has broken through near the locality of Novenke and strengthened their grouping there. (The Russians) are continuing to reinforce their forces there, utilizing their earlier success," wrote DeepState on Telegram.
Russian attacks on the border
On February 25, Russian troops attacked a section of the border in the Sumy region, entering Ukrainian territory.
The Ukrainian army managed to repel this assault, but the Russians have not ceased their attempts, using infantry for further attacks. According to soldiers fighting in the Kursk region, the Russians are aiming to move from the locality of Novenke towards the key road Sumy-Yunakivka-Sudzha, which is an important supply route for Ukrainian forces in the region.
