Russian firm unveils foam-body drone for affordable reconnaissance
The Russian company "IRT" (Integral Robotic Technologies) presented a new reconnaissance drone, the "IRT-Scout," at the international event "Comprehensive Security." The main feature of this drone is its foam body.
The "IRT-Scout" drone can be launched by hand, simplifying its field use. The foam construction reduces production costs and makes repairs in field conditions easier. Russian media emphasize that this material makes the drone more economical and practical.
Technical specifications
The drone is equipped with an electric motor to reach up to 56 mph speeds. Its range is 31 miles, and its operating time on a single charge is about one hour. The drone can carry loads weighing up to 7 ounces. Other technical details have not been disclosed.
Context and previous uses
Russia has previously used foam drones on the battlefield. This year, a kamikaze drone constructed from two aluminum tubes and a foam wing with a wingspan of about 6.6 feet was observed.
Defense Express reported that the Russians showcased a new type of "drone mother" intended for FPV drones, with vertical takeoff and landing capabilities. It is still unclear how many drones this system can carry.
