Last night, Russian drones concentrated their attacks on the frontline areas of Ukraine. Typically, targets were deeper in the country, but this time, the adversary launched 90 unmanned aerial vehicles, of which 56 were neutralized by Ukrainian air defense.
According to an official statement from the Ukrainian Air Force, on the night of May 29—beginning at 7:20 PM on May 28 Eastern Time—the enemy launched an assault involving 90 Shahed-type combat drones along with several types of decoy unmanned aerial vehicles.
Russian drones hit nine targets in the Sumy, Kharkiv, and Donetsk regions. These areas were the primary focus of the latest attacks, indicating a shift in the strategy of Russian forces. "A characteristic of this attack was that only objects in the frontline areas were targeted", the statement emphasized.
Defense forces cooperation
Mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, known as "drone hunters," also participated in the fight against the drones. Their efforts contributed to effectively neutralizing the threat.
By 3:30 AM (Thursday) Eastern Time, air defense forces had intercepted a total of 56 hostile Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicles and other models in the eastern and northern regions of the country. According to the statement, ten drones were brought down using missile systems, while the remaining 46 were disabled through electronic warfare techniques.
Attacks on frontline areas may suggest a change in Russia's strategy in the conflict with Ukraine. Focusing on these areas may aim to weaken Ukrainian defense forces in key regions.
