He shared on social media that a Russian attack drone, armed with an explosive charge, struck the sarcophagus that serves as a barrier against radiation from the ruined Block No. 4 of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant."A Russian attack drone carrying an explosive charge targeted the sarcophagus, which shields the world from radiation from the destroyed Block No. 4 of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant," he informed via social media.

Zelensky highlighted that the drone caused significant damage to the sarcophagus. He noted that the fire had been put out and that radiation levels remained stable, with continuous monitoring in place.

IAEA confirms: "Radiation levels unchanged"

The radiation level following the explosion at the site of the decommissioned Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine remains normal, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported on Friday.

The agency noted that during the night from Thursday to Friday, a drone struck the sarcophagus that secures the remains of Reactor No. 4, which was destroyed in the 1986 disaster.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi highlighted that the incident at Chernobyl and the recent increase in military activity around the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Enerhodar, located in southern Ukraine, indicate ongoing nuclear safety threats.
