Russian defenses falter as hundreds of Ukrainian drones strike
Hundreds of drones struck the capital of Russia and its surrounding areas. Videos of the Ukrainian attack on the Moscow region have surfaced online, showing the Russian air defense struggling. The footage reveals how Russian forces are missing attempts to take down the incoming military machines.
The attack on the Moscow region occurred today (April 10) during the night hours. Videos online display hundreds of red dots flying around the vicinity of Moscow.
These ultramodern drones are equipped with sound transmitters. Their operation resembles that of military helicopters. The weapon's design makes it easier to guide and more difficult to shoot down, a reality challenged by Russian air defense operators.
Social media materials indicate that the Russians were unsuccessful in shooting down many of the incoming drones. They missed the vast majority of attempts.
According to witness accounts on Telegram, most drones approached from the southwest side of the city. Loud explosions were also heard in Naro-Fominsk, about 43 miles from Moscow.
Some military drones circled around Moscow for quite some time, consistently avoiding Russian air defense missiles. Several of these drones missed by the Russians flew away undamaged.
This is the latest in a series of drone attacks on the Moscow region in recent weeks. The previous one occurred in March. The Russians destroyed a total of 74 drones then. It remains unclear how many unmanned aerial vehicles ultimately reached their target.
Ukrainian military intelligence intercepted phone conversations among Russians during the drone attack. These revealed that some Russians living near the Ukraine border, which is attacked more frequently, cheerfully welcomed the shelling of the Moscow region.
The intercepted conversations stated that "all Russians should feel what the daily reality of this war is like."
