Russian border breach in Sumy Oblast: Ukraine denies claim

Analysts from the DeepState service, which tracks movements on the front, reported that Russian occupiers penetrated approximately 1 mile into the Sumy Oblast territory near the village of Aleksandria. The spokesperson for the Ukrainian border guard, Andriy Demchenko, however, insists in a conversation with Ukrainska Pravda that this is not true.

Overnight, DeepState analysts posted new maps on their website showing the situation on the Ukrainian front. They reported Russian advances in the Donetsk region, as well as the expulsion of Ukrainian forces from the Kursk region in Russia. Additionally, there was information about the intrusion of Russian forces into the Sumy Oblast, near the village of Aleksandria.

According to DeepState, the Russian army was supposed to have penetrated 1.23 miles into Ukrainian territory.

According to Ukrainska Pravda, this data appeared on December 10th. This territory was under Ukrainian control just the day before—December 9th. However, according to interlocutors from the Ukrainian service among the military fighting in the Kursk region, the Russians crossed the border into Ukraine in the Sumy Oblast near Myropillia almost a month ago.

Border guard denies

These reports are denied by the Ukrainian border guard. "The positions occupied by the border guard in this section are, of course, not directly along the borderline. I have repeatedly emphasized that maintaining our positions, creating firing posts, and establishing fortifications—are done where feasible and where it is strategically beneficial to maintain defense. Concerning this section, the border units have not recorded any attempts at incursion or military actions in this area," assured Andriy Demchenko, the spokesperson for the Ukrainian border guard.

"Furthermore, this area is characterized by wetlands, which makes it difficult for the enemy to establish a foothold or develop their activities there," he added.

The authorities of the Sumy Oblast called the information about the border crossing by the Russians false and hostile disinformation. "At the moment, the military has no information about changes in the border situation, and the situation is under control," it was conveyed in a statement. The authorities also appeal to citizens to "trust only official sources of information and not be manipulated by the enemy, who is trying to destabilize the situation in the Sumy Oblast."
