Russian athletes compete under a neutral flag in the Paris Olympics

The IOC ultimately allowed athletes from Russia and Belarus to compete in the Olympic Games. However, they must do so under certain conditions, including competing under a neutral flag. Fans from the country that attacked Ukraine will not be able to follow the competitions in Paris.

In February 2022, Russia attacked Ukraine, and the war that started then continues to this day. There is no indication that it will end anytime soon. This has resulted in the country ruled by Vladimir Putin being subject to sanctions.

It seemed that athletes from Russia and Belarus would not participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Belarus supports and endorses the brutal attack on Ukraine; hence, it is treated the same way.

Ultimately, the IOC allowed athletes from these countries to participate. However, they are forced to compete under a neutral flag. Additionally, they must pass a test regarding military ties or support for the war.

As a result, only 15 athletes from Russia will compete in the French capital. Consequently, television in that country decided to protest, and no fans would be able to watch the Olympic Games.

Thus, no television station will broadcast the competitions on TV. The only option is to follow the competitions on the International Olympic Committee's website unless Russia blocks such an option.

Public television has been broadcasting the Olympics for a long time. The last time this did not happen was in 1984, 40 years ago.

- I stand in solidarity with all our people who do not want to watch the Olympics without Russia. I once said what our president said: What is the point of this world if there is no Russia? What is the point of the Olympic Games if there is no Russia? - supported the television's decision, famous gymnastics coach Irina Viner.
