Russian army revs up tactics with motorcycles in Ukraine
The Russian army plans to introduce motorcycles into their offensive operations in Ukraine, reports the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW). The first motorcycles are expected to appear on the front lines as early as this summer and fall.
On Saturday, the Russian Ministry of Defense released videos showing soldiers from the 299th Airborne Regiment of the 98th Airborne Division practicing both offensive and defensive tactics on motorcycles.
These operations are conducted in groups of two or three people at a Russian training ground. ISW notes that the Russians may be planning to add motorcycles to the equipment of units fighting in Ukraine.
Lieutenant Colonel Pavlo Shamshyn, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian military group in Kharkiv, reported that Ukrainian intelligence has observed the training of Russian soldiers in motorcycle combat.
New vehicles for the Russians aimed at escaping drones
The spokesperson assessed that motorcycles will improve the speed and maneuverability of Russian troops, which is crucial in avoiding attacks from Ukrainian drones. However, he adds, the noise generated by the motorcycles may hinder the detection of approaching drones.
