Everything points to the fact that Russian forces have captured Urozhaine, a locality recaptured by Ukraine last summer. As the "New York Times reports," they are nearing a crucial supply route in the east.
Ukrainians repelled the attack for a long time, but Russian forces entered Urozhaine over the weekend, delivering a blow to the hard-won Ukrainian victories.
A similar situation pertains to the locality of Staromajorske. The Armed Forces of Ukraine had to retreat, and the Russians took three months to capture the village.
Ukraine hopes that weapons and ammunition recently delivered by Western allies will help stop the Russians. This has already happened in the northeast, where reinforced Ukrainian defenses managed to halt a Russian offensive advancing on Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city.
52 attacks in one day
On Monday, it was reported that Russian forces are also intensely attacking the city of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine. Within one day, there were 52 attacks, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"In the Pokrovsk direction, our defenders repelled 52 assault actions," the daily update on the frontline situation. In total, the occupiers attacked 12 localities there.
"With the support of aviation, the Russians tried to force our units out of their positions. The highest concentration of enemy attacks was near Zhelanne and Novooleksandrivka," reported the General Staff on Facebook.
