Russia strikes Kyiv overnight with barrage of missiles

Russia launched an overnight attack on Ukraine using ballistic missiles, cruise missiles from strategic bombers, and missiles from ships in the Black Sea. Loud explosions were heard in Kyiv, and Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported injuries and numerous fires.

Ukraine: What are the details of the missile attack?

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that fires erupted in three city districts as a result of the missile attack. "Fires were recorded in Darnytskyi, Solomianskyi and Obolonskyi districts of the city. There are victims in the Darnytskyi district," Klitschko stated. There are injured individuals in the Darnytskyi district, and medics, along with other emergency services, are working on-site.

"Explosions in the capital. Air defense is active. Stay in shelters!" Klitschko wrote on Telegram. Sirens wailed in Kyiv twice; around 2 AM local time, when the alert lasted about 2.5 hours, and then again around 5 AM. Explosions were heard at both times.

According to monitoring channels on social media, Russia attacked Ukraine with ballistic missiles, cruise missiles launched by strategic bombers, and missiles from ships in the Black Sea.

Mayor Klitschko urged residents not to leave shelters. Numerous X101-type missiles entered Ukrainian airspace from the north, as confirmed by monitoring channels on Telegram.

What are the reactions to Russia's attack?

The attack on Kyiv is part of a broader offensive affecting other regions of Ukraine. In response to the attack on Kryvyi Rih, a nationwide day of mourning was declared. Ukraine's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, emphasized that all Ukrainian cities and villages express solidarity with Kryvyi Rih.
