Russia strained by heavy losses as military resources dwindle

Russia lacks the resources for effective warfare. According to Yevhen Dykyi, a military veteran, the Russian Federation's achievements in 2025 are negligible compared to this year's losses.

Information from the Ukrainian agency Unian indicates that Russia does not possess sufficient human or technical resources to conduct effective warfare. However, this doesn't mean that the army cannot initiate an offensive—notes Yevhen Dykyi, former commander of the "Aidar" battalion.

Losses incomparably greater compared to successes

Dykyi emphasizes that the Russian forces' achievements over the past year are disproportionate to the losses suffered. Russian troops have captured less territory than in previous years, and their losses have increased. Russia's military situation is dire and could deteriorate further.

"From the perspective of causing harm to our army, the successes of the Russians this year are absolutely incomparable and utterly inadequate to their losses," Dykyi states. "Over the last year, they have captured less territory than in any previous year of the war. And their losses are greater than in any previous year of the great war," he adds.

Dykyi notes that for Putin, even a temporary halt in warfare is unacceptable, despite potential military benefits.

Putin seeks ultimate victory, which means he will continue the offensive, even if his army cannot achieve success. Dykyi adds that Russia is paying an increasingly high price for every meter of captured territory.

Dykyi doubts the Russian armed forces' ability to carry out offensive orders. A lack of human and technical resources makes effective warfare unlikely.

Russian losses in the war with Ukraine

It's important to note that, according to the latest data, in the first quarter of 2025, the Ukrainian armed forces destroyed 9,971 vehicles belonging to the Russian army. In comparison, during the same period in 2024, 3,422 vehicles were destroyed.

While Ukrainians do not specify which vehicles are most frequently destroyed, there is often social media footage showing the destruction of the latest models, such as the T-90M Proryv tanks.

The T-90M Proryv tank is one of the most technologically advanced vehicles in the Russian arsenal. Equipped with a modern 125 mm 2A46M-5 gun and an upgraded Kalina fire control system, it is of considerable importance to Russian military strength. The Relikt reactive armor, which shields both the turret and the hull, provides additional protection. Two machine guns complement the tank's armament with calibers of approximately 0.3 inches and 0.5 inches.
