Russia ramps up missile drills amid tensions with the West

The General Staff of the Russian Federation, following orders from Vladimir Putin, has initiated preparations for training exercises involving missile units of the Southern Military District, as reported by TASS, referencing a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation stated, "Under the directives of the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, exercises are being organized shortly to enhance the readiness of non-strategic nuclear forces for combat duties."
According to the pro-Kremlin agency TASS, the exercises will feature missile formations from the Southern Military District, encompassing participation from both aviation and naval forces.
During these exercises, various operations will be conducted to refine the processes of preparing and deploying non-strategic [tactical] nuclear weapons.
The Ministry of Defense has declared that these exercises also aim to counter "provocative statements and threats from certain Western leaders."
