Russia amplifies offensive in Ukraine, Zelensky braces for major assault
This is troubling news for Russia. Experts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) have noted that Russian troops are stepping up offensive actions in Ukraine. This strategy aims to "minimize potential increases in human and equipment losses."
In an interview with the German television network ARD, Kyrylo Budanov, the head of Ukrainian military intelligence, stated that Ukraine is bracing for a ramp-up in Russian offensive activity towards the end of spring and the beginning of summer. Meanwhile, Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelensky, shared that Russia's principal offensive might kick off at the end of May or June.
Meanwhile, the ISW has already observed a surge in offensive operations by the Russian forces. This includes a significant mechanized attack aimed at the town of Chasiv Yar. Through such actions, the Russian military effectively reduces the chance of spikes in human and military equipment losses.
Russians gain the upper hand on the battlefield
Recent statements from Volodymyr Zelensky and senior Ukrainian military officials have sounded the alarm. They indicate that delays in support for Ukraine have led to the defending country losing the initiative on the battlefield. As a result, the Ukrainian armed forces cannot devise an effective counteroffensive or defense without knowing when and what kind of aid will arrive.
The ISW points out that delays in aid deliveries force the Ukrainian defense forces to face tough decisions regarding defense priorities at the cost of planning future counteroffensive efforts.
Meanwhile, in the USA, the debate about further assistance for Ukraine is ongoing.
Russia's new invention
Recently, Russia has unveiled its latest technological advancement: a tracked drone designed for remote mine laying on the battlefield. In response to this new threat, Ukraine released a video showing its drone targeting this "innovative" weapon of the enemy.
