Rubio poised to make history as first Latino secretary of state
Donald Trump plans to appoint Marco Rubio as the new U.S. Secretary of State. The head of diplomacy's primary responsibilities will focus on rebuilding relations with Latin America and addressing issues with China. Matters concerning Ukraine will take a back seat.

Although an official decision has not yet been made, American media confidently report that Donald Trump will entrust Marco Rubio with the direction of diplomacy. This would be an unprecedented decision, as Rubio would become the first Latino in history to serve as Secretary of State.
The main asset of the 54-year-old senator from Cuba for Trump is his firm stance against China. Rubio is one of the few American politicians banned from entering the People's Republic of China.
Ukraine is no longer the main topic
Unfortunately, these developments bring more bad news for Ukraine. The war with Russia will cease to be the most pressing challenge for American diplomacy. Trump wants to resolve the conflict so he can focus on what he considers more urgent topics—confrontation with Beijing and stopping migration from South America.
Rubio has recently called for resolving the conflict. Although he did not mention Ukraine's victory, he acknowledged that Kyiv should enter negotiations from a position of strength, and Ukrainians must feel good about the agreement reached.
According to the senator, the funds flowing from the U.S. are causing paralysis on the front, leading to thousands of human lives being lost. Ukraine's situation also largely depends on who will become the new U.S. Secretary of Defense.
Trump has announced that this role will be filled by a former veteran of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, Fox News television presenter Pete Hegseth. This nomination surprised even some politicians from the Republican Party, who admit they know little about the candidate for the head of the Pentagon.
