On Sunday evening, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and British Foreign Minister David Lammy issued an appeal to India and Pakistan. They urged both countries to uphold the recently achieved ceasefire and improve communication channels, as reported by the U.S. Department of State.
During a phone conversation with Lammy, Rubio expressed full U.S. support for direct dialogue between India and Pakistan. He highlighted that resolving disputes through dialogue is crucial for regional stability.
In a separate conversation with Chancellor Friedrich Merz of Germany, Rubio discussed the situation in Ukraine. Both countries aim to end the Ukrainian-Russian war, which is a shared goal of the U.S. and Germany, as stated in a communiqué quoted by the Polish Press Agency.
Ceasefire
The information about the ceasefire between India and Pakistan was conveyed by President Donald Trump. In a post on Truth Social, he announced that both countries agreed to an "immediate and complete" ceasefire. This conclusion was reached after "long night talks."
Trump praised both nations for their wise and thoughtful approach to the issue, and expressed gratitude for the focus and consideration it received.
Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed the reports in an interview with Geo TV. An Indian diplomatic representative also addressed the issue. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar stated that Delhi and Pakistan have reached an agreement. He further noted that India will continue to take a "firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations."
