Roy Jones Jr. mourns son’s tragic suicide, asks for privacy
Legendary boxer Roy Jones Jr., one of the greatest in boxing history, announced that his son, DeAndre, has died. Late Monday evening, the boxer issued a statement asking for respect for his family's privacy during this difficult time.

Roy Jones Jr. revealed that his son committed suicide. It is not known what drove him to take this step.
Unfortunately, my son DeAndre took his own life on Saturday - wrote Jones Jr. on social media. - I’m so thankful that God allowed me to come home Friday night to spend the last night of his life with me [sic] and the family. I know a lot of people are going through tough times right now, but nothing is worth taking your own life. God gives it and God should be the one to take it away - he added.
Jones asked fans to "respect his family's privacy" until everyone recovers from the terrible tragedy. Thirty-two-year-old DeAndre was one of Jones Jr.'s three sons.

As a professional boxer, he fought 76 bouts, winning 66, with 47 by knockout, and losing 10. He was known for his unique, spectacular style.
He ended his career in 2018 but returned to the ring two years later. In an exhibition fight, he faced Mike Tyson. The boxers fought under exhibition fight rules. Eight rounds of two minutes each were contracted. The fight was not officially scored, so no winner was announced. The proceeds from the about were donated to charity.
