Romania is another European country battling floods. The situation is becoming increasingly serious. The military is assisting in the evacuation of the population, and unfortunately, the death toll is rising.
The worst situation is in the eastern part of the country, although meteorologists report that Cyclone Boris is now moving westward. The largest floods occurred in Galați County as a result of heavy rainfall during the night from Friday to Saturday. The second severely affected region was Vaslui County, which borders it to the north.
Tragic toll
On Sunday, September 15th, in Galați County in eastern Romania, the death of another woman was confirmed. She is the sixth victim of the floods in this country.
In Galați County, a special medical point will be set up near the flood victims’ camp. Thousands of houses were damaged in this region, and people lost their livelihoods and homes. According to local authorities, the floods affected 5,400 homes in 24 municipalities in Galați County.
Everyone is fighting the effects of the floods
Meteorological services continue to warn of heavy rainfall in Vaslui County, where the situation was particularly severe on Saturday, September 14th. Rains can bring up to 1.6 inches of water per square meter in Vaslui County.
Hydrological services have issued the highest warning, a red code, for Galați, Vaslui, and Iași Counties. An orange code warning concerning hydrological conditions is in effect in northeastern Romania. Meteorologists also predict rain on the eastern and western sides of the country, where Cyclone Boris is moving.
Local structures of the emergency situations inspectorate in Iași County have been put on alert. Plans are in place to monitor the situation of the elderly, the lonely, the sick, and pregnant women.
