Dog-like robots armed with weapons are no longer just a scene from an action or science-fiction movie. Recently, the capabilities of a robot dog with a rocket launcher were displayed.

In 2018 in one of the episodes of the award-winning series Black Mirror, we could see how lethal robot-dogs were chasing their victims. Back then it seemed like only fiction, but today such machines are becoming more and more common. Not long ago, a robodog with a sniper rifle on its back was presented, and now a machine with a rocket launcher has been presented. And it was not a robot created solely for display purposes at military fairs. Such a robodog is already serving in the military.

After the success of the robodog with a sniper rifle, which was used during the war in Ukraine, the military decided to opt for a more universal solution. Robodogs have been equipped with handheld anti-tank missile launchers, which are expected to be perfect for the swift elimination of tanks and armored vehicles.

Such robots could verify very well in urban warfare. Robodogs may be able to carry out effective reconnaissance, and if necessary, eliminate targets. In this way, they can theoretically ensure higher soldiers' safety. Experts agree that the use of robots in urban areas will significantly reduce human life losses - on both sides of the conflict.

It's worth mentioning, however, that the UN is emphatically against equipping robo-dogs with weapons. It should also be remembered that Boston Dynamics machines were never intended to become weapons. Potentially, they can be used in everyday life, for example as a guide dog for a blind person. But the military and competing firms quickly saw much greater potential in these robots. As early as 2018, robodogs began military service in the American army, although they were then used for protection and patrolling. However, opponents of this solution fear that this type of machine may dominate military forces.
