There have long been speculations that the iconic title in movie history would return to the cinemas. Now Michael Mann confirms: the sequel "Heat" is his next project. What do we know about it?

The movie from 1995 tells the story of a professional criminal Neil McCauley (Robert De Niro), who organizes an armed robbery on an armored van. The investigation into this case is led by Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino).

Although some of the biggest actors of our time had previously appeared in another classic - "The Godfather II" from 1974, the plot of "Heat" was the first where they had a scene together. Can the sequel of this popular movie have the chance to surpass or be as good as the original?

What is the plot of "Fever 2"?

It is already known that the movie will be based on the book by Mann and Meg Gardiner of the same title. The novel was published in August of this year and quickly became a bestseller of "The New York Times". In our country, its release is managed by HarperCollins Polska. The description reads:

"The day after the final scene of 'Heat', Chris Shiherlis (Val Kilmer) is holed up in Koreatown, wounded, half-conscious, and desperately trying to get out of LA. Los Angeles police detective Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino) is hot on his heels. A few hours earlier, during a shootout under strobe lights at the end of the LAX runway, Hanna killed Shiherlis' partner, Neil McCauley (Robert De Niro). Now Hanna is determined to catch and kill Shiherlis, the last surviving member of McCauley's crew, before he disappears from the city.

In 1988, seven years prior, McCauley, Shiherlis, and their team of professionals carry out heists on the West Coast and the US-Mexican border, and then in Chicago. Ambitious and bold, they snatch quick cash and lead colorful lives. Meanwhile, Vincent Hanna, a homicide detective from the Chicago department - a man struggling with his past - follows his calling. He chases armed and dangerous men hiding in dark, wild corners, and hunts a brutal gang of thieves robbing private homes.

It turns out that the actions of McCauley and Hanny lead to unexpected repercussions.

'Heat 2' transports multidimensional and excellently outlined characters to new regions - from syndicates in the South American free trade zone to international criminal organizations operating in Southeast Asia. It brings us closer to the private lives of people, who in the universe of Michael Mann's 'Heat' will face new opponents in situations that go beyond all boundaries."

If Mann succeeds in transferring this novel to the screen while maintaining the atmosphere and vigor of the original, we are in for a real gem of an action movie.

"Fever 2": who's in the cast?

Rumors are circulating that the main role in the movie, in other words, "young De Niro", will be played by Adam Driver ("Star Wars: Skywalker. Rebirth"). Michael Mann recently collaborated with the actor on the set of the biographical movie "Ferrari", set in 1957. Italian driver and entrepreneur Enzo Ferrari (played by Driver) is struggling with financial and family problems, while simultaneously preparing for the Mille Miglia race.

The director vaguely responds to similar assumptions:

- We haven't discussed it yet. I'll put it this way: while working on 'Ferrari', Adam and I quickly found a common language. We adhere to the same work ethic - we work very intensely. We like each other and had a great time working on this artistic project together.

The anticipated premiere of "Fever 2" in 2024 will be preceded by the worldwide distribution of Mann's latest film, which was already shown at the Venice International Film Festival. "Ferrari" will be shown in U.S. theaters from December 29, 2023.
