In instances when I’m crunched for time and need a quick baking solution, puff pastry is my first pick. I usually cut it into strips and wrap them around apple rings, resulting in an artistic braided pattern. The irresistible aroma of cinnamon, a mandatory ingredient, fills the entire kitchen and triggers an instant desire to eat. This recipe is also a lifesaver when you have surprise guests. Within minutes, I can whip up a delicious dessert that only needs 15 minutes of oven time.
Apple Braids Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 puff pastry sheet
- 5 tablespoons of sugar
- 3 teaspoons of cinnamon
- 2 apples.
Directions:
Step 1. First, I core the apples and then cut them into fairly thick slices. If you don't have an apple corer, you can achieve this with a knife. Just cut the apple in half first and then remove the core.
Step 2. Next, I enlargen the hole in the centre of each slice slightly with a cookie cutter or knife.
Step 3. I roll out the puff pastry sheet on the counter and cut it into long strips. To make it more malleable, I take the sheet out of the refrigerator 15-20 minutes earlier to bring it to room temperature.
Step 4. Using the prepared pastry strips, I carefully wrap each apple slice.
Step 5. I place the wrapped apple rings on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush them with a beaten egg. I then mix sugar and cinnamon together, and sprinkle the concoction over the apple rings. Finally, I bake them at 390 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes.
Step 6. Once baked, I transfer the rings to a plate to be served. They taste great both warm and cold, and are sure to delight! Enjoy your meal!
