A range hood is one of the most essential appliances in a kitchen. It absorbs unpleasant odors and excess moisture. Do you remember when you last cleaned it? If you can't remember, it's a sign that it's high time to get started. But how do you quickly clean a range hood?

The range hood is a fixture found in every kitchen. It prevents grease from settling on walls or furniture by capturing all the fumes on its filter, which requires regular cleaning.

How to clean a filter in a range hood? Removing grease can indeed be a time-consuming task. However, there is an easier method that eliminates the need for scrubbing.

Charcoal or grease? Understanding the types of filters in your range hood

Cleaning a range hood goes beyond its outer surface; the filter inside plays a crucial role. The three main types of filters are grease, charcoal, and metal. Grease filters, made of acrylic or nonwoven fabric, trap grease and should be replaced every few months instead of being cleaned. These are easily found in appliance stores, with a sheet costing between $2.60 to $5.20.

Modern range hoods come with reusable, charcoal, or metal filters. These can be cleaned using water and some dishwashing liquid, baking soda, or regular cream cleaner. While this method does work, it can be time-consuming due to the stubborn grease build-up.

Fortunately, there's a more straightforward solution. Just place the filter in the dishwasher. After the wash cycle, it will look brand new. Combining a dishwasher tablet, hot water, and steam will remove all impurities.

There's no need to worry if you don't have a dishwasher. Place the filter in a bathtub or large dish and pour boiling water over it. Add a packet of baking soda and a tablespoon of dishwashing liquid or a dishwasher tablet to the water. Immerse the filter and leave it for 20-30 minutes, then wipe it down with a sponge. The grease will come off quickly.
