Renowned sports commentator Russell Hargreaves passes away at 45
We've received sad news from Great Britain; Russell Hargreaves, aged 45, has passed away. He was most widely known for his work as a presenter and commentator for talkSPORT. Primarily, he covered football and rugby. However, he had recently stepped down from his job due to illness.
Russell Hargreaves' last public appearance was in August of this year. He posted a photograph taken during a rugby match between New Zealand and South Africa on the X platform.
Due to increasing ill health, he later had to step down from his job. The media announced his untimely passing on Wednesday (December 6). Hargreaves, who tragically died too young at 45, spent his last ten years working as a commentator and presenter for talkSPORT.
Besides his greatest love, rugby, he also covered football and golf. A report from the "Daily Mail" stated that he leaves behind his wife, Rachel, and their three children.
His editorial colleagues greatly appreciated his comprehensive knowledge. They commended him on his encyclopedic intelligence in all sports. Numerous condolences and reminiscences started to surface online.
"I will always remember him as someone extremely versatile in many different areas of radio and television. He was able to transition career paths seamlessly and handle everything effectively," reporter Andrew McKenna reminisced.
"Russell was an exceptional radio journalist, with expertise in many sports disciplines, particularly rugby. We will sorely miss his warmth and positive outlook. Our hearts go out to Rachel, their family, and friends," expressed The Rugby Union Writers' Club.
The nature of Hargreaves' illness remains undisclosed in the media. Unofficially, it's rumoured that he was fighting a rare form of cancer diagnosed earlier in the year. Apart from his work at talkSPORT, the 45-year-old also worked at Times Radio and Arsenal Media.
