Ian Cameron was killed in a knife attack by a burglar. The police believe the criminal was targeting the designer's valuable car collection.

According to Automotive News Europe, 74-year-old Ian Cameron was murdered on Friday, July 12, 2024, in his own home in Bavaria. He died from stab wounds. The local police have not been able to identify the perpetrator or perpetrators, and no one has been arrested. Ian Cameron's body was found by his wife, Verena Kloos, who is also a car industry designer. She took refuge with neighbors and notified the police.

Officers secured footage from the surveillance system. Analysis of this material may help move the case forward. For now, the most likely motive seems to be the desire to steal one of the designer's valuable cars.

Ian Cameron has been enjoying retirement since 2012. Previously, as the chief designer, he left his mark on Rolls-Royce cars after BMW acquired the British brand. He had a decisive influence on the definition of the Phantom and Ghost models. "He created thoroughly modern cars that remained true to the brand's design language," Rolls-Royce wrote in its statement.

Ian Cameron also showcased his talent at the Bavarian company. He played a significant role in creating the sporty BMW Z8. The designer began his career in 1975 at the Pininfarina studio. He was later employed by Iveco. He joined BMW in 1992 and remained there until the end of his professional career in 2012.
