Record-breaking fundraising: Harris leaves Trump in the dust
The amounts raised by the election campaigns of Donald Trump and Kamala Harris in the month Joe Biden decided to drop out of the race and endorsed Harris are being revealed. Democrats can celebrate. Their candidate raised a record sum in just a week, leaving Trump far behind.
Less than 100 days remain until Election Day in the United States. The election campaign is in full swing, and it is historic.
Just a day after Joe Biden withdrew from the race for the White House, it was clear that Kamala Harris was heading for a record in fundraising for her campaign. On July 22nd, the media reported that donations to Harris exceeded $50 million. Shortly after, it was revealed that she managed to raise $81 million in just 24 hours, and the tally was still climbing.
On Monday, July 29th, it was announced that in seven days, Democrats had gathered $200 million for the campaign. This was emphasized as a vast, record-breaking collection and a historic achievement - still unofficial but specific - by the Democratic Party's presidential candidate.
Harris's campaign team reported that the majority of the amount—as much as 66 percent—was contributed by individuals who, for the first time in this election cycle, decided to support a presidential candidate. They did so after Joe Biden announced that he was stepping down and passing the baton to Kamala Harris.
American media also noted that over 170,000 volunteers joined the Democratic Party's campaign. These volunteers will encourage American citizens to vote for the current Vice President through phone calls, in-person interactions, etc.
In June, when Joe Biden was still fighting for re-election, Americans contributed $127 million to his campaign. That month, the Democrats' account had $240 million.
Donald Trump also has reasons to be satisfied. As reported by "The New York Times," in July, the Republican candidate raised as much as $139 million.
It is a huge sum but significantly smaller than the €194 million the Harris campaign gathered after voters welcomed her candidacy with great enthusiasm, the American daily emphasises.
The article adds that the Republican campaign account has a total of $327 million.
It makes July one of the Trump team’s strongest fund-raising months to date, just off the sum raised in May, when Mr. Trump’s supporters responded to his felony conviction with an outpouring of donations totalling $141 million, recalls "The New York Times".
