The Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 is one of the most recognizable sports cars in the history of Japanese automotive design. Well-maintained examples are worth a fortune today, which unfortunately also attracts the interest of thieves. The Australian branch of Nissan learned this the hard way when it lost one of its prized exhibits.
The car in question is a red R32 GT-R from 1991. Sporting distinctive license plates labeled "GTR 091", it was stolen from the Nissan office in Melbourne. Due to its immaculate technical condition, its value was estimated at about 160,000 U.S. dollars. Local police are investigating the incident, though it is currently unknown who might have pulled off such a brazen theft.
With only 100 R32 GT-Rs sold in Australia between 1989 and 1994, the car is a very rare classic and a tempting prize for collectors. It was most likely stolen to order by professionals. Nonetheless, we remain hopeful that it will be recovered.
