Quick microwave shakshuka: Savor flavor in minutes
Mornings can be hectic, and the idea of spending several minutes over a pan to prepare a nutritious breakfast isn't always appealing. However, if you're dreaming of a fragrant, warming dish that will get you going and keep you full for a long time, I have the perfect solution for you.
Shakshuka has been winning the hearts of those who love simple yet flavorful breakfasts for years. Traditionally prepared in a pan, it's an aromatic mix of tomatoes, onions, peppers, and spices in which eggs are cooked. Today, however, I'll show you how to quickly make an equally delicious microwave shakshuka—without frying, without dirtying pots, but with the same taste and aroma.
This recipe is the perfect solution for a quick morning. All you need are a few basic ingredients, one bowl, and a few minutes to enjoy a filling meal that will wake you up better than coffee. Microwave shakshuka proves that a healthy and tasty breakfast doesn’t have to take much time.
Microwave shakshuka – a quick recipe that always works
The idea for microwave shakshuka is especially useful when every minute counts. It's a perfect portion for one person—a great alternative to toast or scrambled eggs. You prepare all the ingredients right in the dish where the meal will be heated. You don't need a pan, oven, or pots.
Although the preparation is amazingly simple, remember one important thing—before placing the bowl in the microwave, pierce the yolk. Otherwise, it may explode during heating, which will not only ruin the final effect but also leave you with a mess to clean up.
How to make microwave shakshuka?
Ingredients (serving for 1 person):
- 7 fluid ounces of tomato passata,
- ½ red pepper,
- 1 egg,
- 1 clove of garlic,
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil,
- Salt and pepper to taste,
- Optional: fresh cilantro, parsley, or dried herbs.
Step-by-step preparation:
- Choose a microwave-safe bowl and thoroughly coat it with olive oil.
- Pour the tomato passata into the bowl.
- Peel the garlic, finely chop it, and add it to the passata.
- Dice the red pepper into small cubes and add them to the bowl as well.
- Season everything with salt, pepper, and, if desired, your favorite herbs—such as cilantro or oregano.
- Make a small indentation in the middle of the vegetable mixture and crack the egg into it.
- Pierce the yolk with a toothpick or the tip of a knife to prevent it from exploding during heating.
- Cover the bowl with a plate or a microwave-safe plastic lid (do not use aluminum foil!).
- Place the dish in the microwave and heat for about 1 minute on high power.
- Check if the egg white is set. If not, microwave the shakshuka for another 15–30 seconds.
- Garnish the finished dish with fresh herbs and serve with bread—it tastes best with a crispy baguette or toast.
Microwave shakshuka is a quick, cheap, and healthy way to enjoy a nutritious meal. Whether you're a student, working remotely, or just looking for a quick breakfast idea—this recipe is for you. Try it at least once, and you'll see that the microwave can do more than you think.
