Questionable fashion choices dominate the 2024 Grammy Awards red carpet

Choosing a classic colour isn't always enough. Ellie Goulding’s dress from the 2024 Grammy Awards saw an overload of trendy details from recent seasons. However, combining lace with sheer and feather elements proved to be excessive.

The artist's sheer dress left little to the imagination. Doja Cat arrived in a layered maxi made of transparent chiffon, bearing her tattooed body. The draped and creased fabric underneath created a dishevelled, perhaps even sloppy, effect.

Kelly Osbourne stood alongside her boyfriend, who took centre stage. This was mainly due to the gas mask Sid Wilson paired with his striped suit, a colourful scarf, and a polka-dotted pocket square. Too much? Most definitely.

While feather accessories and details are trending in fashion, an overabundance can create an exaggerated and cartoonish look. Summer Walker's entirely feathered dress, accentuating the waist and hip line, tapered down at the bottom like a mermaid tail. The hat of the same material transformed her into a character straight out of a fairy tale.

Did she camouflage under tree branches? That's the impression one might get from Dawn Richard’s dress, which seemed to float in midair. With her hand concealing the outfit's top, the red, form-fitting ensemble looks elegant and classic. But the protruding straps, morphing into stiff stems of flowers or tree branches, transform the outfit into a piece from a contemporary art museum.

South African vocalist Tyla wore a microscopic outfit to the 2024 Grammy Awards. The skimpy skirt paired with a belly-baring top featured an element that resembled a bone shape straight out of the Flintstones. The phrase "less is more" springs to mind here.

Caroline Polachek brings a new level to Wednesday Addams' dark style. The vocalist wore a black dress with a stand-up collar, the intriguing pattern of which drew attention. The pattern, reminiscent of a circulatory system, creates a dark and chilling atmosphere akin to that from the "Twilight" saga.

Denim continues to find its way onto the red carpet. While it's rebellious and strays from conventional street style, it's still prone to fashion mistakes at major events. Ice Spice dressed in an indigo-colored outfit lined with fur and "adorned" with numerous buckles. It seems that the denim debacle of Britney Spears is no lesson to today's celebrities, who are keen to steal the spotlight at all costs.
