Quake strikes off Hokkaido, no casualties reported
A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of Japan's Hokkaido island.
The tremors occurred at 4:37 AM Eastern Time, as reported by the Japan Meteorological Agency. The epicenter was located southeast of the city of Kushiro at a depth of 12 miles.

Japan's national broadcaster reports that strong tremors were felt in many areas. However, there are currently no reports of damage or casualties. Aftershocks continue to occur at the site.
