Putin's war strategy shifts: Rasmussen warns of long conflict
Former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen believes that Vladimir Putin, instead of quickly taking Ukraine, is betting on weakening the West. He also stated that the Kremlin's plan "A" failed, and the decisive year for ending the war will be next year.

When asked when and how the war in Ukraine might end, Rasmussen admitted that "it is difficult to predict."
Are we facing a prolonged conflict?
I'm afraid that this will be a long-term war. Putin's "Plan A" – the conquest of all of Ukraine within a few days – failed. His "Plan B" is a frozen conflict and Russian occupation of eastern Ukraine in the hope that the West will weaken and give in, he explained.
The outcome of the war could be decided by the US elections
The former Secretary General of the Alliance suggested that the war in Ukraine will last at least until the end of 2024, as Putin hopes that the presidential elections in the United States "will bring changes that will help him one way or another."
In my opinion, next year will be decisive. If we give the Ukrainians everything they need not only to survive but also to win the war, they have a great chance of pushing the Russians back, highlighted Rasmussen.
