Contrary to media reports claiming that Vladimir Putin is open to negotiation talks, the US presidential administration believes that Moscow's true intentions differ. The Russian president is not striving for a peaceful end to the armed conflict. This stance from the United States was quoted by the "European Truth".

The White House's clear assessment

During a briefing, National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby assessed Vladimir Putin's recent actions.

"Despite the chatter, I've noted in a few media reports during the past days about Mr. Putin seemingly wanting to negotiate, he certainly does not comport himself as someone who desires negotiations," Kirby was quoted as saying by the "European Truth".

Kirby backed up his viewpoint with the fact that Russia has been launching sizeable attacks on Ukraine for several days, employing drones and missiles. The targets of such actions are not solely military assets but civilians as well. The National Security Council spokesperson also believes Ukraine should be provided additional resources.

"Putin is doing everything within his power to bring the Ukrainians to their knees. Therefore, it is crucial for the president's request (to Congress) for extra funds to be approved," Kirby stated.

Large-scale attacks on Ukraine

Recently, Russia has been leading large-scale attacks on Ukraine. The most significant of these occurred on December 29th of the past year. A total of 32 people were killed in Kyiv alone, with 55 casualties recorded nationwide.

As per the information delivered by the commander of the Ukrainian armed forces, Gen. Valery Zaluzhny, during the night and morning of December 29, Russia employed drones, S-300 rocket launchers, and 158 different types of missiles in the attack on Ukraine, including hypersonic Kinzhal and maneuvering missiles.
