Putin proposes talks with Kyiv

Vladimir Putin made an unexpected statement overnight, proposing direct talks with Kyiv in Istanbul.

The Russian leader announced that the negotiations could take place on May 15, highlighting the role of Turkish President Recep Erdogan in peace efforts.

"I would like to once again express my gratitude for the mediation services and efforts aimed at a peaceful resolution to the Ukrainian crisis, undertaken by our foreign partners. These include China, Brazil, countries in Africa, the Middle East, and recently the new administration of the United States of America," he said.
