It's important to note that many statements from Russian media and officials are likely false, potentially serving as misinformation tactics by the Russian Federation.
For the past few weeks, Russian missiles have frequently targeted Ukraine's crucial infrastructure, including thermal power plants, power substations, and hydroelectric stations. The aim is to weaken Ukraine's economy and impact society at large.
In a misleading statement, Putin claimed that Kyiv instigated the conflict, compelling Russia to react. "Unfortunately, we recently witnessed a series of strikes on our energy facilities and were forced to respond," he commented during a Kremlin meeting with Alexander Lukashenko.
He elaborated that the assaults on Ukraine's energy sector were part of the efforts to "demilitarize" the nation, given the sector's importance to the Ukrainian defense industry.
Russia intensifies attacks, targeting vital infrastructure
According to Volodymyr Zelensky, within just 24 hours, nearly 40 Russian missiles were launched at Ukraine's essential facilities, along with attacks by numerous strike drones. These assaults occurred in the Kharkiv, Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, and Lviv regions. The Trypillia Power Plant in the Kyiv area suffered significant damage.
