Prominent French psychoanalyst Gérard Miller accused of sexual assaults during hypnosis sessions
A respected French psychoanalyst, author, and media personality, Gérard Miller now faces potential career-ending scandals as allegations about his activities become public.
The Paris Prosecutor's Office announced on Friday, February 23, that they had initiated an investigation into allegations of "rape and sexual assault, including cases involving underage victims" against Miller. The French media are actively reporting on the case.
It is alleged that Miller induced a hypnotic state in his patients, often in sessions at his home, and then assaulted or raped them. These incidents reportedly occurred between 1995 and 2005. According to "Elle" magazine, six of Miller's patients have come forward to the investigators with reports of victimization.
Upon waking, I found myself lying on an upstairs bed, stomach down and scantily clad, with my pants around my ankles. I couldn't recall how I ended up upstairs and undressed. I had no intention of sleeping with him, yet I found myself awakened in darkness, in bed, with him on top of me. I was utterly passive and helpless as he proceeded to violate me - one woman recounted her experience to the French media.
"I am confident that I never forced anyone"
"Le Monde" reports one woman's accusations of Miller raping her at the close of 2001 when she was just 17 and he 53. "Elle" adds that the youngest victim to come forth so far claimed to be a mere 15 when she fell prey to the psychoanalyst.
Miller, who is now 75, vehemently denies the allegations, insisting that he always sought the women's consent. "Le Monde" recalls the psychoanalyst and columnist defending himself at the onset of these accusations earlier in January. He declared unwaveringly that he is "convinced that he did not compel anyone."
