Prolong your daffodils' life with these simple tricks
Daffodils bring a springtime mood to our homes, even when the weather isn't ideal for a walk. There's a simple way to enjoy their beauty for a longer period.
Daffodils are a popular decoration in homes, especially during the Easter period when we want to bring spring indoors. The yellow flowers immediately make the room more cheerful and cozy.
Although daffodils are quite durable, there's a simple trick to enjoy them even longer. With these methods, the flowers will last in the vase for weeks.
How to extend the freshness of daffodils? Here are the best ways
Avoid heat
The first step is to properly position the vase. Daffodils don't like heat, so avoid placing them near radiators. Otherwise, they will wilt before your eyes.
Ice cube in water
To prolong the freshness of a bouquet of daffodils, add an ice cube to the water. This will lower the temperature and slow down the wilting process.
Lemon acid mixture
A well-known and effective way to care for daffodils is to prepare a solution with half a teaspoon of citric acid. Before placing the flowers in the vase with the citric mixture, dip their stems for a few seconds in warm water. Citric acid lowers the pH of the water, which inhibits the growth of microorganisms. The water with citric acid should be changed every two days.
Trimming the stems
Upon bringing daffodils home, immediately trim their stems at a 45-degree angle to increase the water uptake area. Don't forget to regularly change the water, as this prevents the development of mold and microorganisms.
