On Thursday at the Stade de France in Paris, rugby sevens matches took place. Ticket holders had their first opportunity to familiarize themselves with the food and beverage prices that will be in effect during the Paris Olympics. Those who were hoping to enjoy a pint of beer will be disappointed, as none of the venues in the stadium serve alcoholic beverages.
This is in line with French law from 1991, which prohibits the sale of alcohol in stadiums unless it is served with a meal. This means that only those in the exclusive VIP area will be able to drink alcohol during the Olympic events.
According to the British newspaper "The Sun," fans can choose from a selection of non-alcoholic beverages. However, these are not cheap. It turns out that a 16.9 oz Kronenbourg non-alcoholic beer costs $8.80, and a 13.5 oz Tourtel Twist 0% lemon beer is $6.60.
Soda drinks like Fanta, Coca-Cola, and Sprite in a 16.9 oz bottle cost $5.50. Meanwhile, a 16.9 oz bottle of water costs $3.85.
