Many think of today's holiday as a day off from work, or an occasion to go shopping. But sales aren't the essence of the Presidents Day. Here, you'll find both brief history and a list of closed shops to get the most out of this special Monday!

Designated initially to honour George Washington in 1879, Presidents' Day was expanded to celebrate all U.S. Presidents and shifted to the third Monday of February by the 1971 Uniform Monday Holiday Act. This occasion melds national esteem for presidential legacies with contemporary American customs, including commercial sales and educational initiatives, showcasing a fusion of traditional respect and current societal trends.

Will our mail arrive today?

Most banks, the NYSE, NASDAQ, and USPS, will be closed on Presidents' Day, affecting financial and postal services. Government agencies, including DMV, public libraries, and courts, will also be closed. However, retail stores, restaurants, and major retailers like Walmart, Target, and Costco will be open. Public transportation may run on a holiday schedule, and schools are generally closed. This mix of openings and closings reflects the holiday's federal status and commercial activity.
