Pope Leo XIV meets Zelensky: Shaping peace from Vatican

Pope Leo XIV, following his inauguration, will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday. President Zelensky attended the mass at St. Peter's Square. The Vatican announced the audience.

On Sunday, there was a solemn mass inaugurating the pontificate of Pope Leo XIV, elected at the conclave on May 8. About 150,000 people participated in the mass.

Among the 156 official delegations were presidents, prime ministers, representatives of monarchies, and leaders of various faiths and religions. Notable attendees included Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Poland's President Andrzej Duda with his wife Agata Kornhauser-Duda, Italian President Sergio Mattarella, and the Israeli head of state Isaac Herzog.

The United States was represented by Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola also attended.

Vatican: Pope's meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky announced

The Vatican confirmed that Pope Leo XIV will meet again on Sunday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who was present at the mass at St. Peter's Square.

Earlier, Leo XIV had a phone conversation with the Ukrainian leader. During the call, President Zelensky invited the Pope to visit Ukraine.
