Pope Francis perseveres despite health concerns, assures surgeon
Concerns have emerged regarding the health of Pope Francis, especially after his recent appearance during the Palm Sunday Mass. His voice appeared noticeably weakened, and significantly, he opted out of delivering the homily. Prof. Sergio Alfieri, a surgeon who has previously treated Francis, provided some insights, reassuring that moments of fatigue are expected for someone of the Pope's age and activity level.

The Mass on Palm Sunday has particularly alarmed followers. From the start, the Pope's frail voice was evident. After a moment of silence following the Passion of the Lord, he chose to continue the service without giving a homily.
A surgeon affiliated with the Gemelli Polyclinic discussed the Pope's health in an interview with "Corriere della Sera." He mentioned that there is no pressing concern regarding the Pope's condition, despite him being 87 and having undergone lung surgery in the past. These factors inevitably affect his health to some extent.
The Holy Father remains in commendable shape considering his age and previous surgeries on his lung. His occasional respiratory issues during colder seasons are not surprising — Alfieri, as quoted by PAP.
The surgeon also highlighted the Pope's adherence to a routine of regular health checks, showing no signs of severe illnesses.
No Cause for Alarm
Prof. Alfieri pointed out that at 87 years old, the Pope, like others his age, experiences times of frailty. However, he stands out by maintaining a level of activity rare for his age group and rarely neglecting his responsibilities.
It's important to note that Francis has been dealing with voice issues for over a month now, linked to a long-standing respiratory infection. His dedication remains unwavering as he prepares to lead the ceremonies of Holy Week, including four Masses and two services, one of which is the pivotal Good Friday Way of the Cross in the Roman Colosseum.
