In a message directed to U.S. President Donald Trump, Pope Francis expressed his condolences regarding the plane crash that occurred in Washington. Due to the collision between the passenger plane and the military helicopter, it is believed that all passengers on the plane have perished.

Pope prays for the victims of the crash

In a telegram published by the Vatican, Pope Francis emphasized his spiritual closeness with those affected by the tragedy near the airport in Washington. The Pope noted that he is praying for the victims of the crash and extends condolences to the families who are mourning their loved ones.

Francis also expressed support for those involved in the rescue operation, asking for God's blessing of comfort and strength for the entire American nation.

John Donnelly, the fire chief in the U.S. capital, reported that "all 64 people who were on board the American Airlines plane are likely deceased."

So far, from the Potomac River, into which both aircraft (a Bombardier CRJ-700 and a Black Hawk helicopter) crashed, the bodies of at least 27 victims from the passenger plane and one victim from the helicopter have been recovered. The search for bodies continues.
