The pope's remarks were recorded by the interviewer, Vatican expert Valentina Alazraki. In a subsequent tweet, she shared that the pope remarked, "When old age and limitations come, one must prepare."
"That's why I met with the master of ceremonies, to simplify papal funerals," stated Francis, according to Alazraki. He said his funerals would be "much simpler" and highlighted his intention to introduce a new ritual.
Pope not considering resignation
In another tweet, Alazraki shared quotes from the Pope's interview on N+ television. Despite his health concerns this year, he insisted that he "never thought about resigning".
Discussing the resignation of Benedict XVI in 2013, Francis highlighted that "he was a great and humble man" and admired his courage in acknowledging his limitations and stepping down.
Additionally, the Pope confirmed an invitation from the new president of his native Argentina, Javier Milei. This revelation came ahead of the Pope's 87th birthday on Sunday.
