Concerns over the reduction or complete cessation of American support for Ukraine, potentially to pressure Kyiv into negotiating peace with Moscow, are growing in Europe after Donald Trump's victory in the U.S. presidential elections.
These worries are increasing especially because the outgoing administration of Joe Biden has announced its intention to use all the funds allocated to it by the U.S. Congress in April for aid to Ukraine until the end of the term. Additionally, the administration plans to forgive over $4.5 billion of debt Ukraine owes from a loan provided with Congressional funds.
Can Europe handle the war in Ukraine without US assistance?
"In your opinion, is Europe capable of providing Ukraine with sufficient assistance to resist Russia without US help?" This question was posed to participants of the SW Research survey for rp.pl.
Only 16.6% of Poles believe that Europe, without US assistance, is capable of providing Ukraine with adequate support. Conversely, 59% of respondents think otherwise, and 24.4% have no opinion on the matter.
The study was conducted by the SW Research agency on November 19-20 with a group of 800 online panelists over the age of 18 via the SW Panel online panel.
