Heroic rescue operation

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office reported that a K-9 unit named Kuno was crucial in locating a three-year-old who went missing. The child had managed to pry open a window and leave his home in Geneva Township on Monday, 4 March, leading to the successful search and rescue operation by Kuno.

The sheriff's office reported that law enforcement was summoned to the residence half an hour following the boy's last sighting, and a K-9 unit was brought in to aid the search effort.

During their search, the sheriff noted that Kuno and Deputy Eric Calhoun, his handler, discovered a footprint close to the house that guided them to a body of water about a quarter-mile distant. Drone operators from South Haven Area Emergency Services observed the child walking close to a pond.

According to authorities, Kuno has been a Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office member since 2017 and has helped find five missing children during that time.

The boy received on-site treatment for minor scratches before reuniting with his parents and grandmother.
